Gruden Shares There’s No News on Culpepper

While we all know that quarterback Jake Plummer will NOT be at Bucs camp when the team takes the field Friday, there is some question still about the teams interest level in former Viking and Dolphin QB Daunte Culpepper. Head coach Jon Gruden didn’t say much about the recent meeting with Daunte when he spoke about it Thursday, but did give the QB some praise. “He’s a heck of a quarterback. He’s thrown a lot of touchdown passes,” Gruden said of Culpepper. “I just met him and looked into his situation, as many teams in this league are. Nothing is imminent, nothing is concrete in terms of what he’s looking for right now or where he’s going to end up.”

Right now the Bucs QB spot still belongs to Jeff Garcia, who joined the team in the offseason from the Philadelphia Eagles. He is front of a couple other QB’s on the roster – , Chris Simms, Bruce Gradkowski, and Luke McCown. While nothing seems in the works about Culpepper, you have to think that if the position struggles early in camp, the fact that Gruden already met with Culpepper means that they will give him even more of a serious look if in the meantime he does not sign anywhere else.
