KFFL.com Breaks Down Bucs WR Battle

Michael Clayton vs. Maurice Stovall | Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Clayton’s sterling rookie season, during which he caught 80 balls for 1,193 yards and seven touchdowns, is all but forgotten heading into 2007, his fourth season as a pro. Last year, Clayton disappointed fans and fantasy owners once again; he recorded only 356 yards and one lonely touchdown in 12 games.

Stovall, who is competing with Clayton for the No. 2 spot, possesses excellent size and speed but is inexperienced in the NFL. It is an interesting positional battle between these two players, considering Clayton once showed so much promise. Until he begins to show flashes of his former ability, however, a player as risky as Clayton shouldn’t be on fantasy rosters, even as a reserve. Consider Stovall a very deep sleeper this season with the potential to emerge as a useful reserve should Clayton continue to falter.

PROJECTED WINNER: Clayton should start initially, although don’t be surprised if the job is Stovall’s by midseason, if not before.
