Kansas City Chiefs' Michael Bennett runs past Chicago Bears' Darwin Walker (99) and Ricky Manning (24)

The NFL trade deadline expired yesterday and the Buccaneers got themselves a much needed running back. The team acquired Michael Bennett from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a future draft pick in 2008 and 2009.  The 29-year-old Bennett served as Larry Johnson’s backup and played sparingly.  He’s a former first round pick of the Minnesota Vikings.  His best season came back in 2002 when he rushed for 1,296 yards and five touchdowns.  The Bucs have rushed for a combined 47 yards the last two games.  The team also released running back Lionel Gates and signed running back Ken Darby to the practice squad.
