Garcia may start vs. Houston

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jeff GarciaDespite the very impressive performance by Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup quarterback Luke McCown, apparently that wasn’t enough to warrant a second start.  According to team head coach Jon Gruden on Monday, starting QB Jeff Garcia would start against the Houston Texans, assuming he is healthy.

Gruden added, “He’s a needed guy on our football team.  We need to win another game. We’re in the fight of our lives to win every Sunday and this weekend is not different.  If Garcia is cleared to play, he’ll play.”  Gruden also denied a previous report by ESPN saying that Garcia had a fracture in his back; he insisted that nothing was structurally wrong with Garcia’s back.  My best guess is that there’s something more to this, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if McCown gets the start against Houston next weekend.
