Samuel Has Bucs High on His List of Teams to Play For

While he is set to cost whatever team takes a chance on him a fortune, Pats corner Asante Samuel has the Bucs on his short list when it comes to teams he would like to play for once he hits free agency on Friday.  “Tampa Bay is a situation that makes sense,” said Alonzo Shavers, Samuel’s agent in today’s Tampa Tribune. “Tampa Bay is definitely worth considering. It was an organization that was in the Super Bowl not too long ago. It is an organization Asante wants to play for. It’s definitely something that makes perfect sense for everybody.”

The 27-year-old may be seeking a deal that would pay him up to $10 or $11 million per season for up to 10 years with $30 mil up front.  While it would be a huge risk to take on a player not a QB or RB, he is a player that would make a big difference in the Bucs secondary.  At 5-10, 185 pounds, Samuel is one of the top CB’s in the game, and he’s eager to prove it away from New England.

The Saints, Eagles, Jets and others are on his list as well, but one thing is for sure – the Bucs are on the list.  “We’re not having a large pool of teams to choose from,” Shavers said. “Not everybody will need him or want to pay that kind of money. It’s going to be a select group and Tampa Bay is high on our short list.”
