A New Start for WR Bryant Could Pay Off for the Bucs

It’s been so far so good for new Bucs WR Antonio Bryant, who the team signed in the offseason despite issues in the past that scared off a lot of teams.  The 27-year old has shown flashes of being a very good receiver, but he’s also shown flashes of being a flash in the pan, and a player that won’t ever amount to much of anything in the league due to his attitude and work habits.

Now though, Bryant is proving his worth, and while he’s got a long way to go to being a starter and making it to being a solid NFL wide out again, to this point he’s looked good.  “He’s probably been one of the two or three best guys we’ve had working at wide receiver,” Bucs pro personnel executive Doug Williams said in today’s Tampa Tribune. “He’s got a great passion for the game, and he really missed it. You can see that in him. He’s hungry and he’s showing us that he really wants to be here and be a part of this team.”

Bryant’s last team, the 49’ers, let him go after he had a run-in with Mike Nolan.  The Niners had signed him in hopes of him bringing their passing game back to life, but instead, he was more headache then he was worth.  The team eventually let him go in March.  It wasn’t the first run-in that Bryant had, the same type of thing happened with Cowboys coach Bill Parcells, this before he was eventually traded to the Browns.

Both Bryant and the Bucs want to put all that behind them, and hope that he can rebound and have a solid tenure with Tampa Bay.  “I’ll tell you, Antonio Bryant has really been impressive,” Bucs coach Jon Gruden said. “We really like the things Antonio Bryant has done here, so we’ll see how it works out.”  The Bucs would be more than happy to have Bryant finally reach the level many think he can, now it’s all up to him.
