The 0-and-1 Tampa Bay Buccaneers are preparing for Sunday’s home opener against the 1-and-0 Atlanta Falcons at Raymond James Stadium. Head coach Jon Gruden says Brian Griese will get the start at quarterback. Jeff Garcia’s ankle swelled up after their season opening loss at New Orleans. Gruden says Garcia has not been himself and he will be held out until he is healthy. Garcia hinted yesterday that his ankle feels “fine” and that he can play this week.
Linebacker Derrick Brooks has a strained hamstring and is listed as questionable. Brooks did not practice yesterday. The Falcons rushed for more than 300 yards last week in beating the Lions. Michael Turner rumbled for 220 yards and two scores and will have the attention of the Bucs defense. Kickoff time Sunday is at 4:05 p.m.
