No Deal Coming Soon for New TE Winslow

Pro Football Weekly reports that you shouldn’t expect any type of new deal soon for newly acquired TE Kellen Winslow:

There were reports that the Buccaneers and TE Kellen Winslow were negotiating a new deal shortly after he was traded to Tampa Bay on Feb. 27, but sources say that subject likely won’t be seriously addressed until after the 2009 season. Historically, the Bucs have not signed players to new deals until they are in the final year of their contract.

There are concerns about the longevity of Winslow’s career, since he has suffered through some serious injuries after being drafted by the Browns in ’04, and it’s likely that general manager Mark Dominik will be extra cautious in his dealings with Winslow’s agent Drew Rosenhaus.

  1. Its only right to be cautious with such a player who has a past of playing partial NFL Seasons.Don’t get me wrong I hope TE Kellen Winslow plays wonderfully this season with the Buccaneers. But when it comes to contracts and extensions of contracts he may have a few hurdles to overcome.
