The trading with the Browns continued as they moved the 17th pick to the Bucs so Tampa Bay could grab QB Josh Freeman from Kansas State. Freeman last season threw for 2945 yards with 20 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.

Here are the details on Freeman from Draft countdown:

Strengths:

Outstanding height and bulk…Above average athleticism…Has a very strong arm and can make all the throws…Mobile enough to buy time in the pocket and make plays with his feet…Is very difficult to bring down…Can throw on the run…Good deep ball…Played in a pro style offense…Tough…Durable…Coachable with a good work ethic…Team player and leader…Has a lot of experience…Still has loads of potential.

Weaknesses:

Streaky and will run hot and cold…Forces things and makes some bad decisions…Inconsistent mechanics…Not overly accurate…Marginal touch, timing and anticipation…Doesn’t read defenses well…Will stare down his targets and hesitate…Too much confidence in his arm…Must continue to improve his footwork…Struggled versus elite competition.

Notes:

A three-year starter in the Big 12…Father, Ron, played professionally in the USFL…Holds the Wildcats career records for pass completions, attempts, yards, touchdowns and total offense…Did not play with a strong supporting cast which contributed to a lot of his problems…Has been called a poor-man’s JaMarcus Russell…Has all the physical tools you look for in a pro quarterback and most of his weaknesses can be fixed…Not a finished product and could have used another year in school but could emerge as a top-notch starter if developed properly.
