QB Freeman Talks to the Media After the Draft

NFL Draft Football
(on being united with coach Raheem Morris): “I was with Raheem my freshman year and throughout the process we’ve stayed in touch. Not as much as some of the guys on our team, but quite a bit. He’s a great guy and a great coach. I remember a whole lot about him from my freshman year and when this process came along, yeah, reunited is a good term, I got to talk to him and visit him. I had a great time down in Tampa, and I’m glad to be back with him.”

(on what he said on the phone): “He said, ‘get back down to Tampa’”

(on if he feels he is in good position to win the starting job): “I’m not going to comment on that. All I’ll say is that I’m going down there with becoming the starter in mind. I mean, I have no clue how that’s going to happen. I’m not saying that I’m going to go down there and take it right away. But I’m going to go down there and put myself in the best position to become the starter.”

(on team’s record at Kansas State): “Definitely, being 5-7 my last two seasons is something that I wasn’t striving for and it wasn’t in the cards for me, but it happened. My first year was my worst year as a player and we won more games, so go figure. My goal ultimately at Kansas State was to improve as a player each year from an on-field standpoint, a leadership standpoint, and also a classroom standpoint. So I felt like I did that and I have to continue the process if I want to be the best.”

(on whether he was surprised to be selected by the Buccaneers): “Not at all. I’ve been in touch with them, talking quite a bit with them, and I’m glad it worked out.”

(on whether he has been to the Tampa area before): “Yes, I took a visit down there and had a little tour. I liked it a lot, it’s beautiful.”

(on Tampa Bay fans being very supportive): “That’s one of the things they told me. They said that Tampa has never had a franchise quarterback and I’m looking to step in and fill that role for them.”
