Quincy Black Looking to Make a Splash on the Bucs D in 2009

The Herald Tribune has a feature today on three-year vet Quincy Black, and how the defense could use him a lot in the 09 season:

The three-year veteran, who has been used mostly on special teams in his first two seasons, is the kind of player who will make this 4-3 alignment work in new defensive coordinator Jim Bates’ scheme, which will feature more blitzing and presumably a more ferocious pass rush.

Black has acquired the label of a “hybrid,” because of his ability to do a multitude of duties all over the field — from run enforcement to pass rushing to pass coverage.

His regular position will be strong side linebacker but he will also line up at defensive end in pass rush situations.

“You’re talking a about a guy that can rush off the edge,” said Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris. “We want to use what he does best. Right now what he does best is to play fast.”
