Buccanners Release Former Starting OL Sean Mahan

PFT.com reports on the Bucs roster move Wednesday, dumping Sean Mahan:

One team’s trash is another team’s treasure at this time of year. At least until Saturday, when the treasure is likely trashed again in final cuts.

Trying to avoid the turk for the second time in a week will be offensive lineman Marcus Johnson, who was cut by the Raiders Monday and signed by Tampa Wednesday. The former second-round pick of the Vikings has starting experience, although not as much as the player Tampa dumped for him.

The Buccanneers released guard/center Sean Mahan to make room on the roster. The move is somewhat surprising, if only because Mahan has started 52 games in the league and the team re-acquired him via trade from Pittsburgh last year.

But Tampa paid Mahan a hefty salary to sit on the bench last year, and didn’t even want him back at a reduced rate this time around.
