The Bucs played a much more competitive game vs the Redskins Sunday in DC, but were unable to take advantage of an early 10-0 lead, falling 16-13 to a Skins team that rallied for a win to put them at 2-2 on the season. The Buccaneers fall to 0-4 on the year, and once again were not much to talk about on offense.

The team, starting QB Josh Johnson, put up just 229 yards, were just 2-for-13 on third downs, and had 12 first downs. They went up 10-0 after Johnson hit Antonio Bryant for an 8-yard score in the first quarter, and then Mike Nugent kicked a 37-yard field goal after a 12-play drive to make it 10-0 Bucs.

The Bucs had a 10-0 lead at halftime, but the Skins came back with a Shaun Suisham 42-yard field goal to make it 10-3 in the third quarter, and then Chris Cooley pulled in a 17-yard score from Jason Campbell after a Bucs three-and-out to make it 10-9, and the game stayed that way when Suisham’s extra point was blocked.

After the Skins D held again for another three-and-out for Tampa Bay, Campbell went deep to Santana Moss for a 59-yard score to make it 16-10 after this time the extra point was good. Tampa Bay got to Redskins 8-yard line with 5:13 left, but coach Raheem Morris played it safe on fourth down, going for a field goal to make it 16-13.

The Bucs got the ball back with 1:52 left, but Clifton Smith fumbled the ball and the Skins recovered to seal the win. Campbell was 12-for-22 for 170 yards with two scores, and Clinton Portis put up 98 yards on 25 carries. Bucs starter Johnson was 13-for-22 for 106 yards with a TD.

The Buccaneers will be in Philly next week to play the Eagles.
