Morris Relieves Defensive Coordinator Bates of His Duties

Rick Stroud of the St. Petersburg Times reports via Twitter that Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris has relieved Jim Bates as defensive coordinator and will take over defensive play-calling duties. Morris will return Bucs to Tampa Two scheme. Bates remains with the team in a consulting role and help Morris from the box on game day.

    What’s the real deal here? Jags gets fired before the season, now Bates gets fired midseason? It sounds to me like Morris doesn’t know what he’s doing, unfortunately. IMO, you don’t hire a defensive coordinator who is going to use a scheme even though you don’t have any players that fit that scheme. You tailor the scheme to the players on your team – a la the Steelers. Tomlin didn’t change them to a 4-3 like he’s comfortable with. He knew that wouldn’t work because all the players on the roster were there for the 3-4 scheme. I dunno… this just makes me think everything is by the seat of the pants right now…

      Long time fan and have to agree it is turned into a total joke.Chunky is probably laughing everyday.It reminds me of a pop warner coach.Should pull out the original uniforms when they sucked.It would be fitting.
