Leftwich Out For Season

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Byron Leftwich

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without the services of quarterback Byron Leftwich as he was placed on injured reserve Tuesday because of a right arm injury; in addition, the team released cornerback Mike Mickens while signing rookie QB Rudy Carpenter from the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad and wide receiver Terrence Nunn from the New England Patriots’ practice squad.

Leftwich had started the team’s first three games – all losses – this season; he was subsequently replaced by Josh Johnson who was then relaced by current starting QB Josh Freeman. According to Buccaneers offensive coordinator Greg Olson:

“The Byron Leftwich decision was just made (Monday) after he met with the doctors and had trouble with the arm,” offensive coordinator Greg Olson said. “He hasn’t been able to throw the last couple of weeks and he didn’t feel like it sufficiently healed to throw this week. …

“Rudy was someone we evaluated during the draft process and had a chance to watch during the preseason. We felt good about him coming out of Arizona State.”
