Buccs Shock Saints!

Buccaneers Saints Football

The Tampa Bay Buccs shocked the Louisiana Superdome Sunday afternoon!

RB Carnell Williams ran for 129 yards on the day and avg 5.4 yards per carry while taking it to the house 1 time on a 23 yard scamper.

Williams got hot and OC Greg Olson never strayed from the game plan and the Buccs dominated the Saints in the 2nd half and took the victory in OT 20-17 via a Connor Barth FG.

The Saints jumped out to an early 17 nothing lead while scoring on their first 3 possesions of the game. The defense simply got steamrolled for 3 drives.

Then Morris, to his credit made major adjustments and played a classic, “bend but don’t break” Bucc defense for 2 and half solid quarters of football.

The Buccs defense did not let the Saints score any more points and forced a couple of big turnovers.

The Offense had a 98 yard drive end in a Cadillac Williams TD run that put the Buccs right back in it with a lot of momentum to boot. That tied the club record. (Williams lost a yard on the first carry, then the Buccs traveled 99 yards downfield.)

And then it happened. The Buccs trailing by a TD and the defense stops drew brees and the NO offense.

The now LEGENDARY Michael Spurlock (Signed earlier this week) returned a punt for 77 yards to score a touchdown and tie the ball game up at 17. Spurlock had the first ever Buccaneer kick off return for a TD and he made his presence be felt once again on the football field only 2 years later.

Drew Brees came right back and engineered a drive and put the Saints in scoring position to win the football game when K Garret Heartly shanked a FG with no time on the clock, forcing OT.

The Buccs won the toss and Cadillac Williams ran the ball 11 times on the drive (no passes) and Connor Barth sealed it with a 47 yard FG to bring a W to this scrappy Buccs team.

MY PREDICTION : SAINTS 27 BUCCS 20

ACTUAL : BUCCS 20 SAINTS 17

LINE : 14.5 POINTS (SAINTS) 49.5 O/U

I had a feeling this game would come down to the wire and who would have the ball last would win. QB Drew Brees had a phenomenal day going 32/37 for 249 yds and 1TD. Saints RB’s combined for 124 yards on 24 carries as well. But the Buccs stuck to running the ball well and shut down the saints offense with a better running game.

The LEGENDARY Micahel Spurlock energized the Buccs to their 3rd victory on the season. Raheem Morris sealed his position as HC at least for another year. And the Buccs just keep finding their identity.

Next up : Jan 3rd, Atlanta Falcons come to the Old Sombrero 1pm EST
