Strictly For The Geeks: Bucs Opponent Cheat Sheet, Week 4 @ The Bengals

• For the first time in five seasons, Cedric Benson rushed for more than 1000 yards, and finished with 1362 yards from scrimmage in 13 games.

• DC Mike Zimmer, winner of 2009’s Assistant Coach of the Year, started dialing up blitzes in week 1 of the preseason.

• Marvin Lewis is NOT on the hot seat. He is coaching in the same division as the best team in football, Baltimore. He’s given them 5 non-losing seasons in his 7 there while the Bengals only had one such season in the previous 12.

• The additions of rookie TE Jermaine Gresham, Terrell Owens, Jordan Shipley and Antonio Bryant, if he plays, are in direct response to the lack of scoring the Bengals did last year. They went over 24 points just twice, and scored 18 or fewer on 10 occasions. Palmer’s yards per attempt dropped last season against the blitz, 7.18 to 6.14, the second largest drop in the league.

• Receiver Chad Ocho Cinco has had a busy off-season. He announced his plans to try to join the Miami Heat in 2011 if there is no football, did a little Lebron-style recruiting to bring in future Hall of Famer Terrell Owens, unveiled a new cereal named Ochocincos in the Cincinnati area, starred in two reality shows which I’ve avoided like the plague and was fined $25,000 for tweeting during the preseason game against the Eagles. Think he won’t be ready, though? Child please.

• The Bengals go 1-2-3 at corner better than any other team in the NFL. Their top two CBs are young studs Leon Hall, 25, and Jonathan Joseph, 26. Combined, they had 12 INTs and 44 passes defensed last season. Their nickel corner, Adam Jones, has good coverage skills and a knack for big plays.

Chad’s had a pretty busy off season. On him joining the Heat in 2011, I say why not. Everyone else seems to be going there. What’s to stop him from trying?
