Steelers 38, Bucs 13

THE GOOD

The Back-Up RB Has Been Found
Five Bucs had a run of at least seven yards but Raheem Morris has already come out and said that LaGarrette Blount will sub for Cadillac Williams more often next week. Blount, who was suspended as an Oregon Duck a year ago and waived by the Titans not long ago, had 6 carries, 27 yards and his first NFL touchdown.

Preston Parker
He had a 37 yard kickoff return. He should get a look at wide receiver but, according to Morris, Benn is going to get snaps at #2 this week.

THE BAD

The Defense
Well, uh. While the secondary did collect two interceptions and would have had a third if it didn’t bounce off Cody Grimm’s hands for a Mike Wallace touchdown, the Bucs defense allowed a runner to average 7.5 ypc, a receiver to average 33.3 yards per reception and a 35 year-old quarterback who hadn’t started in three years to throw for 12/17, 186 YDS, 3 TD, 2 INT. Pittsburgh probably could have scored again as they started their final drive at their own 48 but kneeled to run out the clock. All in all, the Steelers only punted once and it was a 62 yard doozy.

The Offense’s Consistency
They turned the ball over only twice, but one of them turned into a Brett Keisel TD. The fact is, when you  reach the red zone against a playoff-caliber (not Super Bowl-caliber) team like Pittsburgh, you need to score touchdowns, not kick field goals.

LOOKING AHEAD

Only the 1972 Dolphins went undefeated through the Super Bowl, so the Bucs were going to eventually lose. I expect there will be several more losses but this one might come at the right time. People often talk about how a loss before a bye can sting you but this loss gives them two weeks to get the offense energized and to find a safety that can avoid giving up the big play like Grimm did before they. Cincinnati is a lot like Pittsburgh without Roethlisberger: disjointed on offense, violent on defense. Time to heal up for the next battle.

THAT INTERCEPTION YOUR TALKING ABOUT BOUNCED OFF TALIB’S HANDS…..AND WHY IS EVERYONE SO QUICK TO JUMP ON CODY GRIMM? HE’S OBVIOUSLY THE BEST WE’VE GOT (THINK THE COACHES WOULD KNOW) AND YEAH HE HAD A BAD PLAY BUT IT WAS HIS FIRST GAME. THINK TALIB’S DROPPED INTERCEPTION TURNED TOUCHDOWN WAS ALOT WORSE. OR THE FACT THAT BARBER AND GRIMM WERE 1 AND 2 ON THE TEAM IN TACKLES. THEY WERE RUNNING THROUGH OUR FRONT 7 LIKE SH*T THROUGH A GOOSE.
