Protecting Freeman is a Top Priority

Roy Cummings believes that “Should free agency come around, the Bucs will do everything they can to retain RG Davin Joseph.” He goes on to say that RT Jeremy Trueblood will be pursued, but not to the same extent as Joseph.

Fans may not like the economical approach the Bucs are taking, but paying big money for the guys that are hard to find (Donald Penn, Davin Joseph) is a winning strategy. While this year might not have empirically proven that most players are replaceable, there are a handful of skill positions – OLB and WR – where there are enough guys available in each draft that you can survive letting some guys go elsewhere to get their second contracts. The Bucs will get some serious bang for their buck if the trio of 2010 rookies – Williams, Benn and Briscoe – will man the top 3 wide receiver spots next year.
