Buccaneers Reportedly Headed for HBO’s “Hard Knocks”

While the lockout, in its 10th day right now, is the focus of the NFL world, there’s talk about training camp and what team is going to get invited to be a part of the popular HBO series – “Hard Knocks.”

Last year it was the New York Jets, with their foul-mouthed coach Rex Ryan and band of misfits who eventually found their way for the second straight year to the AFC Championship Game before losing to the Steelers in Pittsburgh.

This year it could be the Tampa Bay Bucs, a team that is on the rise after nearly getting to the postseason out of the NFC South, and could be a surprise team in the conference in 2011.

The word is the Bucs could be the team that HBO film crews follow around this summer, as ESPN reports that the team and HBO are currently in talks for the series.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the leading candidate to be the next team featured on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series this summer, according to two sources with knowledge of talks that have taken place.

The hugely popular show has shown NFL teams during training camp over the last six summers. The New York Jets and gregarious coach Rex Ryan were featured last summer.

The sources said the Buccaneers, HBO officials and officials from NFL Films, which produces the series, have had talks about this season’s version. However, no deal has been finalized and players are currently locked out in a labor dispute.
