Which DE’s Will Be Available To The Bucs At #20?

The bulk of the anticipation as to who the Bucs take at #20 is based on three things:

1. The overwhelming number of promising edge rushers

2. The Bucs’ glaring need for more QB pressure (just 26 sacks last season)

3. The potential spree of QB’s going off the board that could send one of the better ones down. Mark Dominik has been toting this feeling in the air.

To get a good idea on which outside linebackers and defensive ends may be available when it’s time for the Bucs to draft, I’ve listed the edge-rushers – in order – for the mock drafts of myself, ESPN’s Mel Kiper, Jr., NFL Network’s Charles Davis and NBC Sports’ Evan Silva.

Me: 7.Miller, 10. Watt, 11.  Quinn, 14. Bowers, 16. Kerrigan, 18. Smith, 20. Buccaneers: Ayers, 24. Houston, 25. Jordan, 27. Clayborn, 32. Heyward,

Kiper: 3. Miller, 10. Watt, 11. Quinn, 12. Bowers, 16. Smith, 17. Jordan, 20. Buccaneers – Kerrigan, 21. Ayers, 27. Clayborn, 28. Houston, 30. Heyward

Davis: 3. Miller, 9. Watt, 11. Bowers, 12. Quinn, 14. Smith, 16. Jordan, 18. Kerrigan, 20. Buccaneers – Clayborn, 24. Ayers, 32. Heyward

Silva: 3. Miller, 5. Quinn, 11. Kerrigan, 12. Bowers, 16. Smith, 18. Watt, 20. Buccaneers – Jordan, 30. Sheard, 32. Houston

Respectively, that’s 11, 11, 10, and 9 pass-rushers in the first round. The mocks of Charles Davis and especially Evan Silva are a little outdated, so expect to see Bowers fall on both of theirs.

THE VERDICT

Likely to be there:
Iowa’s Adrian Clayborn, Ohio State’s Cameron Heyward, UCLA’s promising Akeem Ayers and Georgia’s Justin Houston are on the board in all four mocks. Evan Silva’s mock was the only one to even include Pittsburgh’s Jabaal Sheard.

Unlikely to be there:
California’s Cameron Jordan is on the board in two mocks. Mel Kiper is the only one who thinks the amazing Purdue DE Ryan Kerrigan will be there for Tampa Bay but I’m putting together a trade-filled mock where he will be there, too, or at least within feasible trading distance.
