Tampa Bay Signs Jonathan Crompton to A 3-Year Deal

The back-up situation behind Josh Freeman just got a little interesting. Already having a Matt Cassel-type (a 2nd-stringer with prototypical size at college) in Mike Coughlin at 4th, Mark Domenik has scraped the illustrious Bill Belichick’s barrel. The Bucs have signed QB Jonathan Crompton to a 3-year deal, just a few days after he was cut by the Patriots, according to Jason LaCanfora of NFL Network.

Could this mean trading Josh Johnson? This would make their back-up quarterback situation as reckless as those in Indianapolis or Baltimore. That said, I like the long-term development chances of Carpenter and Crompton (and even Coughlin, who has had a shaky training camp).

Freeman is a monster at 6’6″ and he is built just like Dante Culpepper. Freeman was amazingly able to limit his interceptions from 18 in 2009 to only 6 in 2010, and he did it while playing six more games. Freeman will be the leader of the Bucs young offense for years to come and the former Kansas State star will only get better as he matures.

I think this is a great catch for the BUCS! Freeman is the stud there now!! Improved greatly over the year before with less interceptions! Great size and arm strength also! I think this Crompton is just waiting to explode…he has the talent..i mean the guy went through i think 5 offensive coordinators while at UT…imagine having to learn all those different offenses and succeed on top of that!!! If he is left in a system and has time to mature..he wil make the BUCS a great backup for the future!!!
