At left is center Jim Hilgenberg, who played from 1974-1978, and at right is Jim Caldwell, a four-year starter at defensive back from 1972-1976. Caldwell became head coach of the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL) on (1-13-09). The 1976 Iowa team, nicknamed “The Wild Bunch” early on, went 5-6 overall, and 3-5 in the Big Ten. The season included a Hawkeye upset of nationally ranked Penn State, 7-6, on (9-25-76).
