The Tampa Bay Bucs are expected to release center Jeff Faine, who has struggled with injuries throughout his tenure with the team, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Faine is currently 30 years old, and was scheduled to make about $6 million in base salary this season, according to Stephen Holder of the Tampa Bay Times. That’s a price the Bucs apparently weren’t willing to pay, as his cap number was nearing the $8 million mark.
The Bucs are probably going to make Jeremy Zuttah, who was recently signed to a new 4-year deal, their starting center. Zuttah has shown rapid improvement in his play, and his versatility is what the Bucs like about him. Jeff Faine’s veteran presence on an otherwise relatively young offensive line, will definitely be missed.
