Bucs strike again, sign Eric Wright and Carl Nicks

The Bucs have continued their spending spree, which is what the fans have wanted all along. The Buccaneers have agreed to a deal with CB Eric Wright and G Carl Nicks. Now, the Bucs have added a top flight receiver in Vincent Jackson, a solid corner in Eric Wright, and probably a top 3 guard in Carl Nicks.

Early this morning, the Bucs reached agreement with Eric Wright, the former CB of the Detroit Lions, on a five-year, $37.5 million dollar deal. The Buccaneers said they would go after a corner, and after Cortland Finnegan signed with the Rams, the Bucs chose to go with Wright. Eric Wright is definitely a solid option because of his flexibility. In the earlier press conference, he said that he could play left corner, right corner, or nickelback.

Then, continuing the spree, the Bucs signed free agent guard Carl Nicks to a five-year deal worth $47.5 million, and $31 million of that is guaranteed. Nicks, was an All-Pro guard with the Saints, and he’s seen by many as one of the top guards in the league. He will be paired with Davin Joseph, who is also up there as a top guard. Nicks said in the press conference that the Buccaneers running game is what brought him here because the Saints offense was so pass heavy.

All three newly acquired Bucs said that they were hungry, and ready to work in the introductory press conference. I’m not sure the Bucs are done just yet, even though Mark Dominik did say that they would be focusing on the NFL Draft from here on.
