Tampa Bay Announces Signings of OL Meredith, Release of DE’s Crowder and Reed

The Buccaneers announced the signing of free agent offensive tackle Jamon Meredith and the releases of defensive ends Tim Crowder and Nick Reed.

A fifth round pick out of South Carolina by the Green Bay Packers in 2009, Meredith opened his career on the Packers’ practice squad before accepting an offer to join the Buffalo Bills’ 53-man roster. Meredith started four of eight games for the 2009 Bills, but has appeared in just nine games over the last two seasons, which has been split between the Bills, Detroit Lions, New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pittsburgh opted to not place a restricted free agent tender on Meredith, making him a free agent.

Crowder was a 2007 second round pick out of Texas by the Denver Broncos who has 105 tackles and 10.5 sacks over his five-year career. Crowder started 13 of 31 games for the Buccaneers over the 2009 and 2010 seasons, posting 6.5 sacks and signing a two-year, $1.685 million contract after the lockout. Crowder played in less than 20 percent of the defensive snaps and posted just 14 tackles in 10 games in a reserve role last season, and was due $1 million in base salary in 2012.

Reed was a 2009 seventh round pick out of Oregon by the Seattle Seahawks who appeared in three games for the Buccaneers late last season. Reed has 23 tackles and one sack in 26 career games with the Seahawks, Buccaneers and Chicago Bears.
