LeGarrette Blount and Preston Parker have officially signed their exclusive-rights tenders, which means they will definitely be back with the Buccaneers for the 2012 season. Both players will earn around $540,000 next season. This seems like a bargain price given that Blount and Parker were two of the more effective players last season for the Bucs. Blount finished with 781 yards and five touchdowns last season, while Parker caught 40 balls and three of those for touchdowns. Parker was also crucial on 3rd-down conversions.
Meanwhile, the Bucs also released quarterback Rudy Carpenter. This comes as no surprise after the team signed Dan Orlovsky in free agency. Freeman and Orlovsky are the only two quarterbacks on the roster, and the Bucs might only carry two throughout the season as they did at times last season. Another possibility would be drafting a quarterback in the later rounds of the draft. The team will probably add at least one more quarterback before training camp, however.
