Doug Martin Named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week

Rookie running back DOUG MARTIN of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and linebacker BRIAN URLACHER and cornerback SHERRICK MC MANIS of the Chicago Bears are the NFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for games played the ninth week of the 2012 season (November 1, 4-5), the NFL announced today.

  • Martin rushed for 251 yards and four touchdowns in the Buccaneers’ 42-32 win at Oakland. Martin and MIKE ANDERSON (December 3, 2000 vs. New Orleans) are the only players in NFL history to rush for at least 250 yards and four touchdowns in a game.
  • He had touchdown runs of 70, 67, 45 and one yards and is the only player in NFL history with three touchdown runs of at least 40 yards in a game.
  • Martin finished with a team-record 272 scrimmage yards. He has 486 scrimmage yards in the past two games, the highest total in a two-game span in a season since Pro Football Hall of Famer WALTER PAYTON in 1977. He is one of only four rookies in NFL history with at least 200 scrimmage yards in consecutive games.
  • He is the first rookie running back in NFL history to score four scrimmage TDs of 45+ yards in a two-game span.
  • Martin, who averaged 10.0 yards per carry (251 yards, 25 attempts), is only the third player in NFL history to have at least 25 rushing attempts and average 10.0+ yards per carry in a game.
  • In his rookie season from Boise State, this is Martin’s first career Player of the Week Award.
  • He is the first rookie running back to be named NFC Offensive Player of the Week since ADRIAN PETERSON in 2007 (Weeks 6 and 9).
