Win Streak Stopped as Bucs Fall in Houston 28-14

No Luck for Luke Sunday

The Buccaneers had a shot Sunday to clinch the NFC South, but instead were beaten by a backup QB while their own backup QB was unable to generate any big plays in a 28-14 loss. Led by backup QB Sage Rosenfels, the Texans won their 6th game of the season on Sunday, using his three touchdown scores to help. Rosenfels was on target all day, his only downfall were the two fumbles he lost, but the defense helped him out, only allowing one to be converted into points. Rosenfels overall went 27-for-36 for 209 yards with the three scores. “As a backup, you know sooner or later you’re going to get a chance and you just have to make the most of it,” he said. “I personally feel I am good enough to start in this league. But that’s not something I can control.”

The Bucs will have to wait one more week to start a new streak, as without Jeff Garcia they had a day filled with mistakes and were unable to make many plays on offense without their leader. “Four game win streak or one game win streak, it really doesn’t matter,” defensive end Gaines Adams said. “We just didn’t get it done. Everything we did today was unacceptable.”

Luke McCown started for Tampa Bay and went 25-for-38 for 266 yards without a TD. “Luke has got to get rid of the football,” coach Jon Gruden said. “There were some times when he needed to throw the ball away. Sometimes that’s the best play you can make.” The Bucs made it close at times, closing to 21-14 after Earnest Graham scored from 20 yards out in the third quarter. The Texans though had a great drive that ended with Rosenfels hitting Owen Daniels with a four-yard score with 14:56 left.

The Bucs will be at home to host the Atlanta Falcons.
