Offensive Letdown in Denver Stops Bucs 16-13

The big questions about the Bucs contest with the Broncos Sunday had to do with how much they would score, and if their D could hold the Broncos in check.  Well, the D played up to their standards, holding the Broncos to just 16 points.  Problem was their offense couldn’t find the cracks that other teams have so far with Denver, as their offense could only score 13 in the 16-13 Bucs setback.

The loss sends Tampa Bay to 3-2 on the season, while the Broncos improve to 4-1 on the year, good for first in the AFC West.  The Bucs also lost their QB, as Brian Griese was hurt in the contest with a shoulder injury.  He left after going 13-for-19 for 88 yards.  He was sacked three times for minus 13 yards.  He will be questionable for next weeks big NFC South showdown with the first place Panthers.

The Bucs were able to put up 307 yards, 168 passing and 139 rushing, but never were able to get the offense in stride.  Four of their 10 drives were three plays and out.  They had a 7-play, 65-yard drive that resulted in a field goal in the first quarter.  They got another field goal at the end of the half to make it 6-6.
In the second half, the Broncos D stuffed them for the most part, as they only had 39 yards in four drives, all punts, till Jeff Garcia took them down 90 yards in 13 plays for a late score that made it 16-13.  The Bucs D though was not able to stop the Broncos, as they ran the clock out after six plays, 20 yards to win the game.

They will have to find an answer for the struggling offense, as they take on the 4-1 Panthers Sunday at home at 4pm.
